Job Title: Project Assistant

Responsible To: Program Manager

Location: Mamfe

Hours: 7 hours a day

Projected Start Date: September 1, 2016

Contract: Fixed Term until August 2017 (Contract could be extended subject to funding)

Background to United Vision

United Vision is a youth-led feminist organization that exists to fight against trends and tendencies that relegate the woman and girl child to the background, denying her the right to reach her full potential. We do this by addressing their sexual and reproductive health needs, ending gender-based violence and giving adolescents and young people control over their own bodies through information and education.

 About the Project

The “My Body My Rights” project seeks to empower young people in five secondary schools in Mamfe community with the knowledge and tools necessary to guide them in making informed and healthy choices concerning their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) through peer education and theatre and the arts.

 Job Purpose

To support the delivery of a school-based sexuality education program which requires an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual who can work autonomously and as part of a team. The Project Assistant will be required to work with a variety of educational institutions. The post holder will need to deliver effective, highly competent project support and consistently deliver in a person-centered environment which promotes positive relationships.

The project assistant must be comfortable working independently and often times alone. There are several days a month in which all staff and volunteers are out of the office. He/she must be detail oriented, highly efficient, and able to multi task. He/she must be able to meet deadlines on a regular basis and meet high-quality standards on all materials. He/she will want to make a difference in nonprofits and related agencies. The candidate will be highly motivated by the task of keeping a highly-efficient and effective office and operation, and will strive to make improvements in all administrative, operations, communications, and brand aspects.


Project coordination and assistance 50%

  • Manage and follow up five volunteer peer educators
  • Track project deliverables using appropriate tools
  • Constantly monitor and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders
  • Weekly follow up of volunteer and data analysis
  • Present reports defining project progress, problems and solutions
  • Implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs
  • Handle requests for information and data from volunteers and staff
  • Assists in proposal development and assures proposals are received and complete

Administrative and Finance Support 25%

  • Assists in coordinating schedule
  • Prepare written responses to routine enquiries
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings, appointments
  • Prepare agendas for meetings and prepare schedules
  • Minute taking
  • Contribute to the work of UV as appropriate.
  • Attend UV team meetings and organizational initiatives as required.
  • Undertake any other duties as appropriate and within the post holder’s capabilities
  • Professionally represents the organization at all times
  • Works closely with Finance and Admin Officer for accounts payable / receivable
  • Handle petty cash

Office management 15%

  • Keeps the office clean and tidy
  • Manages office supplies, materials, equipment, phone system, and other technology
  • Manages office maintenance
  • Maintains project files
  • Makes recommendations for and handles office and system improvements

Other 10%

  • Other office, project work as necessary and desirable
  • Skills
  • Writing, editing, proofreading
  • Project management – able to complete projects on time in time allotted
  • Works efficiently and effectively (able to prioritize multiple projects)
  • Organizational systems for currency and accuracy
  • Software – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Flexibility using the internet

Other requirements

  • The successful candidate must be open-minded and progressive
  • Must be a young person below 30
  • Should have an interest or passion for sexual and reproductive health
  • Be excited working with young people
  • Free spirited and flexible
  • Passion for gender equality


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree in business, nonprofit management, communications, Project Management, Gender Studies or related social science subjects
  • Administration and office management experience
  • Excellent proofreading and editing skills
  • Data analysis skills and report writing
  • Experience / knowledge of nonprofit organizations

      Greeting sirs' with all due respect I wish to apply for this job , but the problem is that I have but HND in Accounting. I have work with a microfinance institution for 8 months and as a teacher in the high school for four years teaching Accounting, Business Mathematics and Computerized Accounting. Also I have management in the advanced level technical. With all due respect sirs' I don't know if I can apply for this job. Thanks applicant
