Role Title: Volunteer Peer Educator

Responsible To: Project Assistant

Location: Mamfe

Hours: 2 days a week

Projected Start Date: September 1, 2016

Contract: Fixed volunteer agreement. Valid till June 30, 2017

Background to United Vision

United Vision is a youth-led feminist organization that exists to fight against trends and tendencies that relegate the woman and girl child to the background, denying her the right to reach her full potential. We do this by addressing their sexual and reproductive health needs, ending gender-based violence and giving adolescents and young people control over their own bodies through information and education.

About the Project

The “My Body My Rights” project seeks to empower young people in five secondary schools in Mamfe community with the knowledge and tools necessary to guide them in making informed and healthy choices concerning their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) through peer education and theatre and the arts.

Role purpose

Volunteer Peer Educators will provide health education focusing on pregnancy prevention, increasing self-esteem, encouraging healthier decision making skills and increasing communication around sexuality. Volunteer Peer Educators will need to be available to work with students on weekly education sessions, trainings, workshops and outreach to their peers in secondary schools in Mamfe Central.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Commit to being a Volunteer Peer Educator for at least 9 months. (September 2016- June 2017)
  • Participate in Peer Educator Training in August 2016.
  • Assist with planning and presenting of sexual health education workshops and activities.
  • Assist with conducting outreach and promote outdoor activities and school events.
  • Assist in designing various types of health education materials (flyers, pamphlets, posters, etc.)
  • Attend mandatory weekly meetings.
  • Attend mandatory quarterly refresher courses

Time Commitment

2 days per week

Must be available for Peer Educator training in August

Must be available during exchange visits and school events


  • At least an Advanced Level Certificate or a holder of a first degree in any subject area.
  • Be between (18-26 years old). The age requirement is flexible for a very mature and eager teen Interested in sexual health issues relating to youth.
  • Comfortable with public speaking, especially speaking to peers their age about sex and sexuality.
  • Mature, reliable, and responsible.



Training will be provided in order to increase knowledge, facilitation and presentation skills around STI/HIV, pregnancy prevention and Life Skills etc.


Volunteer Peer Educators will be provided with a small monthly stipend.

Young women are encouraged to apply.

Residents of Mamfe are encouraged to apply.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.
